Luke sets the scene where he describes the rise of the far right and One Nation isn’t happening by accident. He says these groups are being propped up by far right billionaires and their donors so that they can protect the profits of these billionaires who have no connection to our community and divide working people. And then says that today's conversation is about how we fight back against those forces of regression.
Luke introduces the panellists: Emma Comer, our federal member for Petrie; Rebecca Fanning, former federal candidate for Longman, past Longman FOC President, a State Conference delegate for Longman and a National Conference delegate as well; and our National Party President Wayne Swan.
Wayne is described by Luke as “more than anybody I think in the Queensland Labor Party and really the Australian Labor Party, has been ‘belling the cat’ on the growing risk of economic inequality and its connection with the rise of the far right. As Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer, he shepherded Australia through the biggest financial crisis we've ever seen but through all of that had the north star of ensuring that working people were getting ahead and inequality wasn't widening. So, I think we'll all appreciate his insights.”
